Dressed Well for your Body Type and the Occasion.

Dress appropriately and great for every occasion whether it’s a walk in the park, brunch, gym or cocktail party. You want to enjoy yourself wherever you are, rather than fuss over what you are wearing or didn’t wear and you don’t want to wear something that requires constant adjusting. The feeling of being underdressed or overdressed, cold or uncomfortable just plain sucks, when you are dressed well in clothes that fit properly and look good on you, you will exude confidence—this helps everything else flow right!

Have the Basics.

Pick your staple outfit and keep it simple, wear what you feel comfortable in, something that looks good that easily transfers from day to night, styled but not too trendy! Mine is black tights or skinnies and a white tank or T– It’s comfortable and it works! I can be in flats with a jean jacket one minute and next I can throw on boots and a blazer—simple maneuver! I can dress it up or down and layer accessories (jackets, shoes or boots, scarves or sweaters) depending on and the weather or occasion which also makes this staple especially perfect for traveling (super easy to mix and match)!

Workout Clothes.

I’m a biased Canadian in love with her Lululemon crop tights and half tops, however after exploring LA and the incredible variety of designers and brands, I’ve found a million great brands with great fitting clothes. I find that darker colored tights work best as grey and light colored show sweat marks in the crotch area.I love Elizabeth Rogiani, and Onzie (although the tights are a tiny bit see-thru) makes some really cute prints.

Comfy’s.

Just cause you are at home or runnin errands don’t mean you gotta look like a mess! You’ll feel better if you are wearing sweats that conform to your curves rather than make you feel frumpy! I like the softer version of workout clothes, lounge wear as they call it. Relaxed sport bras, leggings that aren’t as thick, cute tanks and T’s.

Dressy.

Wear classy vs slutty. If you are showing cleavage, wear a longer skirt and vice versa. Flowy dresses and tops with furs, black leather shorts or pants, slick tights, crops or boyfriend jeans with heels and a blazer. Camisole tops (just add a blazer, leather jacket or fur vest) with a hot pair of heels for a easy breezy sexy look. For dressier occasions an LBD is essential in every woman’s closet, for a different look try a 70′s style flowy pantsuits (they are sexy as hell and ridiculously comfortable)!

Jackets and Blazers.

I love em—jackets like the shoes can also can make just about any outfit pop. I love blazers, leathers, moto leathers, jean jackets/vests, fur vests,
actually vests of any kind look hot. Every girl should own a blazer, get cheaper one at H&M, or if you decide to invest in a pricier option it can last you forever, Helmut Lang is my favorite they make some really beautiful jackets with super sexy cuts! I still have a the cutest jean jacket I purchased in Florida 10 years ago at some inexpensive shop, it’s cropped and faded, everyone always asks me where I got it.

Shoes.

This is one of the areas I tend to splurge on a bit, however it’s worth it for me to invest in a good pair because my feet hurt in the cheapy pumps—plus the well made pricier shoes last a long time (I have all mine rehealed on every so often). Wearing hot shoes can make the outfit. I’m a nut over for over the knee boots and sky high pumps—LOVE them, yet I also love wearing my Uggs I have them in pretty much every color. Summer time I sport havianna flip flops, they are $20, I buy them fresh each summer in black, white and sometimes gold—they are cute, comfortable and go with everything (I’ve spent money on dressier sandals, yet I always resort back to the cheapy’s). I wear Nike free runners for training or Vibram 5 finger shoes and most importantly I have spin shoes for spin class—they really make the ride!

The Rules.

Well in my mind there are no rules. Wear what you want when you want as long as you aren’t inappropriate for the occasion or wearing something that you are about to pop out of. Forget all those silly rules like the white after labor day or brights with neutrals, yellow on blondes, black with blue.. blah blah, Just don’t wear white to a wedding.

Spring Fever!

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” — Anne Bradstreet

Formally an East Coast girl, March has always been one of my favorite months; I just love the cusp of spring because it brings so many enchanting things! A change in seasons is refreshing, love is in the air, colors are popping, new scents are blooming, fresh fruits and veggies become available; it a time to get a fresh start to get renewed with a cleanse and a new workout plan or routine, a clean house and most importantly striping down the layers and entering a whole new exciting wardrobe season.

Dust off The Closet!

Before you go out shopping for all the new stuff tempting as it is, go through your closet, drawers and everything else.. It may sound overwhelming, but it’s worth it and you’ll thank yourself later! Make space (for new stuff)! Take a few hours to figure out what to toss, what to sell, what to store, what to keep.

When you are well put together…

It’s one less thing you’ll have to worry about! Keep only the stuff that looks good on you. If you feel less than great in it then you know the rule get rid of it! If it’s got serious sentimental value, hold it. However it’s time to get rid of the pieces you never wear even if they blew the bank.

A clean closet is a dream.

Get Dressed easily! I’ve learned that a well organized closet really does takes away the pain of “I’ve got nothing to wear” especially when everything is neatly folded or hung in it’s place. When you know what you’ve got, you can easily see what additions to make for the season.

Happy colorful shopping!

Getting dressed.

Do you always feel like you could of worn something better the moment you’ve left the house? I know when I’m dressed well (and I don’t mean expensive), in clothes that are comfortable, fit properly, right for the occasion and stylish I feel great doing whatever it is that I’m doing, regardless if I’m in sweats at home or dressed to the nines on the town.

The first step.

Dressing well starts with a clean organized closet and drawers. You need to know what you’ve got in order to co-ordinate outfits. Get rid of anything you haven’t worn in ages, these items add confusion when getting ready, plus they add clutter and take up valuable real estate. When your closet is clean and coordinated it makes getting dressed a snap–you’ll know exactly what you have and where it is.

Organization.

Everything should be neatly folded according to occasion and style: sweaters, layering pieces T’s, tanks, sweaters, workout clothes and sweats in their spots. Hang dresses (dressy/casual/summer) and jackets (leathers, winters, blazers, jean) in sections, fold jeans in stacks (skinny/baggy/belled/colored), sweats in drawers etc.

Fit.

Don’t buy clothes too small in hopes that you will fit into them soon because you are “losing weight”, clothes should fit you properly right now. You don’t want to be wearing stuff that’s too small or big, it’s really unflattering, not to mention uncomfortable. Your clothes should compliment your age and body type; everybody is different not all clothes look good everyone. It’s important to know what looks good on you. I recommend having a good friend help you with this, sales associates are trying to sell you stuff and they usually work off commission.

Comfort.

I primarily dress for comfort—that doesn’t mean frumpy or sloppy. Fabrics that feel good on the skin, breath well, allow me to move as I may. Non-scratchy sweaters, stretchy jeans or tights (there’s nothing worse than wearing a tight, well anything!). I like to be warm and cozy, I layer sweaters, scarves and jackets. I wear shoes that I can walk in, regardless if they are 7″ I have to be able to walk or else I’ll look seriously ridiculous. I always keep a pair of flips in the trunk incase there’s an impromptu pedicure, photo-shoot or trip to the beach.

You can too, blu Democracy is your everyday basic; perfect for around the house, to bed, to nap, to workout and run errands in. These threads are made out of bamboo in LA, sweatshop free. They are literally my second skin and in my opinion it’s the most comfortable stuff to wear on the planet. I discovered the line a little over a year ago in the Equinox boutique, and as it turns out by total fluke the owner is now one of my best girl friends.

The production of the product uses significantly less water than the production of cotton. A cotton T uses 720 GALLONS of the world’s water (11,520 cups), vs the production of a bamboo T only uses 240 gallons of water (3,840 cups). Supporting this brand means you are participating in a social movement, encouraging more efficient use of the worlds limited resources like water and supporting a business that is dedicated positively changing our world; you will have an immediate impact on the lives of nearly 1 billion people currently living without access to clean water (a basic human right in North America), a portion of the sales go to Generosity Water.

I encourage you to Save Water And Give, reduce your environmental footprint with the purchase of fashionable, comfortable clothes. Isn’t that just plain rad?
