Tips for Fast (Body) Recovery

Physical training can be very demanding on the body, especially if you train like I do– frequently and hard! My tips for keeping your body moving post workout sans pain:

fit body recovery

1. MSM (Methyl-sulfonyl-methane).

a water soluble compound and organic form of sulfur that has amazing effects on bad calcium formations in the body.  Calcium forming organisms like to attach themselves to stagnant areas of the body, MSM helps to lubricate joints, repair tissue damage, improve skin, nail and hair damage and by strengthening collagen repair and overal helps our body’s run optimally.

2. Self Myofacial Release.

Also known as foam rolling, this physical therapy is like giving yourself a deep tissue massage, I love my soft Yoga Tune Up  balls. Rolling can be done pre or post workout or at home in front of the TV when you have the extra time.  Key spots to work into: between shoulder blades, front of the shoulders and chest, butt (right in the piriformis), IT band (side of the legs), behind the knee (especially if you are a runner or a biker), sides of the knee and calf.

3. Incorporate restorative stuff.

Find some balance; your body also craves restorative calming practices and activities that feel good.  Activities like gentle or restorative yoga, walking and swimming, a massage, hot bath, massage etc.

4. Sleep.

Sleep is where the magic happens, it’s where your cells regenerate, grow and repair. Rest more, weigh less! studies show that sleep supports the maintenance of your two appetite controlling hormones Grehlin (enhances) and Leptin (represses appetite), which affect weight gain/loss and body fat levels.

5. Healthy Diet.

A good diet of whole natural foods is essential to longevity and fueling your body appropriately for training.Extremely important for your body to have adequate energy and get the best results from training.
