Do you always feel like you could of worn something better the moment you’ve left the house? I know when I’m dressed well (and I don’t mean expensive), in clothes that are comfortable, fit properly, right for the occasion and stylish I feel great doing whatever it is that I’m doing, regardless if I’m in sweats at home or dressed to the nines on the town.
The first step.Dressing well starts with a clean organized closet and drawers. You need to know what you’ve got in order to co-ordinate outfits. Get rid of anything you haven’t worn in ages, these items add confusion when getting ready, plus they add clutter and take up valuable real estate. When your closet is clean and coordinated it makes getting dressed a snap–you’ll know exactly what you have and where it is.
Everything should be neatly folded according to occasion and style: sweaters, layering pieces T’s, tanks, sweaters, workout clothes and sweats in their spots. Hang dresses (dressy/casual/summer) and jackets (leathers, winters, blazers, jean) in sections, fold jeans in stacks (skinny/baggy/belled/colored), sweats in drawers etc.
Don’t buy clothes too small in hopes that you will fit into them soon because you are “losing weight”, clothes should fit you properly right now. You don’t want to be wearing stuff that’s too small or big, it’s really unflattering, not to mention uncomfortable. Your clothes should compliment your age and body type; everybody is different not all clothes look good everyone. It’s important to know what looks good on you. I recommend having a good friend help you with this, sales associates are trying to sell you stuff and they usually work off commission.
I primarily dress for comfort—that doesn’t mean frumpy or sloppy. Fabrics that feel good on the skin, breath well, allow me to move as I may. Non-scratchy sweaters, stretchy jeans or tights (there’s nothing worse than wearing a tight, well anything!). I like to be warm and cozy, I layer sweaters, scarves and jackets. I wear shoes that I can walk in, regardless if they are 7″ I have to be able to walk or else I’ll look seriously ridiculous. I always keep a pair of flips in the trunk incase there’s an impromptu pedicure, photo-shoot or trip to the beach.
